Devon/Cornwall
I took a 5 day tour to this area with Rabbi’s tour company. I have taken several of their tours and always enjoy them…small bus with no more than 16 people. These tours always seem to attract really nice people. I have taken several of them and have always enjoyed the trips. On this tour…

Kew Gardens
This is such a beautiful garden. I was here once before in the winter and it was great then too. Just took two Tube rides to get here. There are over 500 acres of woodland and the world’s largest seed conservation project.

Changing of the Guard
The Changing of the Guard is always a sight. When the Queen was in charge the change happened everyday. Under King Charles the Change happens just 2 or 3 times a week. I took a great video of the guards marching in but I can’t figure out how to get it uploaded.

Highclere Castle
For those of us that were and are Downton Abbey fans, it was a lot of fun to take this tour. The countryside was beautiful. First, we stopped at the Witney Farm which was used for most of the farm scenes in Downton Abbey. We then stopped in the village of Bampton where the wedding…

Cotswolds, England
I took a small bus day tour to the Cotswolds. This is a beautiful part of England. It was a bit of a challenge though, given all the other tourists doing the same thing!

London, England
After York, I headed to London on September 30th. My hotel is near Russell Square which is a comfortable area…seems very safe, Tube station just one block away. First order of business was a find a laundromat. Gotta have some clean clothes. Luckily there was a nice one just a couple of blocks away from…

Wales & York
I made things easier on myself and signed up for a 3 day tour of Northern Wales. I used the tour company, Rabbies, which I have used extensively in Scotland. They are great and operation the small, 16 passenger Meredes vans. I have always had good luck with the Rabbies tours I have taken. This…

Dublin, Ireland
I can’t say that I have set the world on fire with sightseeing lately. I was here in Ireland a couple of years ago with some friends…Wes and Nadine. Wes had scoped out the whole route and sights and drove! It can be a bit hard to really get out in the wilderness without a…

Edinburgh (more)
A couple of photos of a very cute area called The Circus. This is in the New Town area of Edinburgh. This area was built in stages between 1767 and about 1850. In the late 18th century, Edinburgh was dramatically expanded with the creation of New Town, a marvel of urban planning and neoclassical design.…

Edinburgh, Scotland
After leaving lovely Greece I headed to Edinburgh, Scotland. While I wanted an escape from the heat in Greece, the 58-60 degree weather of Edinburgh was a surprise when you consider it is July. But it has been easier to handle than the unusual heat of Greece. I have been in Edinburgh for a little…

Cooking Class on Naxos
We are making a delicious dip – Tzatziki. Wonderful to dip the Kolokithokeftedes in. Trip to Delos I leave the Greek Islands on June 26th for Scotland. This will begin the 3 months I must remain out of the EU (part of the Shengen Pact).

Caltagirone, Italy
Agrigento – Valley of the Temples Sicily I rented a car to use while in Sicily. I think it would be very hard to get around only by bus or train. I had a Mini Cooper, automatic, and it was fun. Most of the roads are two lane, curvy country roads. I drove to Agrigento,…

Athens, Greece
No photos yet. Getting to Athens from Sicily was full of challenges as Ryan Air delayed the 9:30 pm flight until 1:10 am which put us in Athens about 3:50 am on Tuesday. I mean, I go to bed at 10 pm so staying up this late/early was a challenge. But made it ok and…

Rome, Italy
Getting to Rome was a trip via the train through Florence. The Florence train station is a very busy place. I had a few hours wait for my train to Rome. I have purchased many of my train trips with a company called Trainline. Most of the trips have worked out just fine. But this…

San Gimignano, Italy
Such a fun, Tuscan hill town. I had a flight from Budapest to Florence and then train to a little town called Poggibonsi. I didn’t realize that it was yet another several miles to San Gimignano and that at 9:00 pm the local buses stopped running. Lucky the person managing the place I was staying…

Budapest, Hungary
I really enjoyed my time in Budapest. One thing I have noticed about myself is that if the place I am staying is cute (doesn’t have to be fancy), then my mood is much better and I seem to enjoy myself. I had the loveliest Airbnb here and it made all the difference…on the group…

Warsaw, Poland
I had an airbnb set up for Warsaw. When I reached the place I was a bit put off by the condition of the building. Then when I went inside the bldg and saw all the stairs…easy enough for me to do the stairs but my suitcase – you know about my suitcase. The owner…

Berlin, Germany
East Berlin I always thought that East Berlin was the worst side…dark and gloomy. But East Berlin had all the great buildings – libraries, palaces, universities, Einstein and other great scientists worked here. I think that the lack of freedom once the Wall went up and the scarcity of food and items eventually wore on…

Prague, Czech Republic
It has been a few days since my last posting. From Frankfurt I took the train to Prague. The train ride from Frankfurt to Prague with a change in Dresden, Germany was very comfortable and pretty fast. I was sorry to have to make a change in Dresden (the suitcase thing) but I must say…

Normandy D-Day June 6, 1944
The visit to Normandy was amazing and very moving. Just some facts before the photos: there are 9,387 graves, 45 pairs of brothers and one father and son (Franklin Roosevelt’s son and grandson) and 151 Stars of David amid the crosses. Our guide said that many of the Jewish soldiers were afraid to state their…

Bruge, Belgium
I am a little behind in my postings. I decided to take the bus from Nueue Vennep because the train would have meant 2-3 transfers and, well, you know, my suitcase is kind of heavy. So I opted for a long ride on the bus so that I didn’t have to move stuff. Bruge is…
