Edinburgh (more)

A couple of photos of a very cute area called The Circus. This is in the New Town area of Edinburgh. This area was built in stages between 1767 and about 1850. In the late 18th century, Edinburgh was dramatically expanded with the creation of New Town, a marvel of urban planning and neoclassical design. Old Town Edinburgh had become very crowded and unsanitary. The New Town area is the largest complete example of town planning from the Georgian Period anywhere in the world. New Town was central to Edinburgh’s identity as a city of Enlightenment ideals and intellectual vigour.

Very cute street with well kept houses. This area is also part of New Town.

Royal Yacht Britannia

It was difficult to get a full shot of the yacht.
Prince Phillips Office.
2nd Level crew relaxing room. There were similar quarters for each level of the crew.
Marine Band bunks.
Their very own gift shop.
Mail Office. Tiny but probably the most important room. Every day there would be a delivery of important papers for the Queen plus mail for the crew.
Royal sitting room. It is reported that the Queen felt she could really relax on the yacht and wanted the decorations and furniture to be very comfortable.
Dining room set up for special state dinners. Could take up to 3 hrs to get it all decked out.
China Room
Silver room.
Full operating room. The sick bay was set up to help with wounded soldiers if need be but wasn’t ever used that way.
They could bring onboard their own Series 1 Land Rover.
Wasn’t easy to get it onboard though. Sometimes they were known to bring onboard a fancier car if the Queen was going somewhere that couldn’t initially offer suitable transportation.
And their own little cruiser to get them from the yacht to shore.
