Naxos and Paros, Greece

Fun harbor where I had my first lunch in Paros. Lots of cute ‘Popeye Boats” that the fishermen use. Very traditional boats. There is some conversation that some folks don’t want these boats to be iconic to Greece…they want a more modern icon.
Fun street by the port.
Fun, narrow streets…old donkey trails. Lots of fun shops and walkways. You can imagine that the donkeys walked with their carts hauling food and items.
View from another delicious restaurant that my friends, Noma and Gail, took me to. Such good food in Paros.
I am not always good about taking photos of my food but this was so yummy.
Beautiful sunset.
I don’t know what religious sect these people are but their dress is very colorful. They were walking through town to call attention to the ceremony they were holding at their church.
The view from my friends’ villa at Angels Villas. They have been coming here for 13 years and it is a beautiful and peaceful place. This year some of the days I was there were very hot…hotter than usual. I am sorry I did not take a photo of the villas. White and in the Cycladic design. Cycladic culture was a Bronze Age culture (c. 3100-c.1000 BC) and found throughout the islands of the Cyclades in the Aegean Sea. More than 200 small islands make up the Cyclades.
A couple of photos from a place called Antiparos Island. Very picturesque and good food.
My friends, Noma and Gail. They welcomed me for 7 wonderful days. It was great to hang out with people I know in such a beautiful location after being on my own for 2-1/2 months. Plus I was a little worn out from making plans of places to stay and visit and they were extremely helpful in helping me get going. I had left my plans for England/Scotland/Ireland until it was too late to get the best selection in Edinburgh. They got me going on Ireland and England. Plus it is hard to believe but I think I need to plan my December as it will be around Christmas Markets. Nice to be spontaneous but then I would be sleeping in a dorm or paying too much money for a place. Plus they introduced me to Naxos, Greece where I am now. Photos to come.

NAXOS, GREECE

Big ferry! Very comfortable. Carrying cars, trucks and people.
Lots of wonderful walkways and stairs. I think all the stairs and doors were to confuse the pirates! 🙂 I took a cultural walking tour that went around town and up to the castle and then up to what remains of the Temple of Apollo in time for the sunset.
Really old, original door…and a kitty.
Looking back on Naxos as we walk up to the remnants of the Temple of Apollo.

The only part of the Temple of Apollo that remains. It is very dramatic sitting up on the hill. And wonderful to see the sunset through the opening.
Lovely sunset.
Energetic walkway along the water. Lots of restaurants and shops and people out enjoying the evening. I was walking back to my hotel after the walking tour…had to stop first for an Aperol Spritz.
